Richard “Dick” Wellington Homer, 85, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2013 after a Memorial Day weekend with family and friends.

Dick was born in Fountain Hill, PA on September 22, 1927. He graduated from Proctor Academy and continued on to receive a bachelor of arts in industrial design from Alfred University and Master’s degrees in engineering and architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dick was married to Roxanne “Rocky” Jones on October 17, 1953; they were married 58 years. Dick worked as an architect for over 50 years, designing commercial, residential and marine projects, including the Pan Am building in New York City. He enjoyed sailing, racing and race management around the Great Harbor of Mount Desert.
Dick is survived by his daughters, Deborah Homer DuBois, and her husband Bill, of Jamestown, Rl, Susannah Homer (Roy) of Southwest Harbor and Sarah H. Fortin, and her husband Marc of Portland, ME, grandchildren Katherine Y Roy of New Orleans, Zachary A. B. Fortin and Mikayla Fortin of Portland; his brother, Stephen B. Homer and his wife, Nancy Bristol Homer of Southwest Harbor; nephews Peter K Homer and his wife Linda Stahl Homer of Southwest Harbor, Christopher Rawls of Mount Desert, Scott Homer and his wife Audrey Homer of Ellsworth; nieces Davian Rawls and Cindy Daman and her husband Bruce Daman of Portland, ME, Jennifer Burg and her husband, Ken Burg of Hingham, MA and Eliza Homer of Sedona, AZ; grandnieces and nephews Matthew, Caroline and Emily Homer of Southwest Harbor; Alex and Abby Homer of Ellsworth, and Amanda Homer, Lindsey Daman, Tyler Daman, Oren Rawls and his wife Ruth and 3 children and Arianna Rawls Fine and her husband, Mike Fine. Alon Fine is the newest member at 5 months old. Dick was predeceased by his sister, Constance Homer of Southwest Harbor and Portland and, his beloved wife, Roxanne.
The Celebration of Life will be held at 1130, Sunday, June 16th, 2013 at The Birches, 46 Fernald Point Road, Southwest Harbor. A reception will follow at 1:00 to 3 pm. In case of rain, the gathering will be held at the MDI Community Sailing Center, 168 Clark Point Road, Southwest Harbor.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the MDI Community Sailing Center, PO Box 116, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679.
