Mount Desert

The Mount Desert facility of Jordan-Fernald is located at 1139 Main Street on Route 198 in the center of Somesville in the town of Mount Desert. The funeral home was built in 1962 and has undergone various changes and renovations since then. The founding father, Abraham C. Fernald, Sr., started providing families with undertaking services in 1860. Since the 1860’s, funerals have moved from people’s homes to the mortician’s home and then to separate facilities, hence the creation of the Fernald Funeral Chapel in Somesville, which is now known as Jordan-Fernald, Mount Desert.

The chapel has a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. The centrally air-conditioned chapel has a seating capacity of 125 for services. The back of the room features a large bay window with a lovely view over a field to Somes Pond. A large open room is available for any type of gathering, including receptions.

Our small cozy arrangement area is welcoming to families. The Mount Desert facility also includes modular selection rooms for both earth burial and cremation services. We provide an array of products available for any type of services.

Ellsworth

Jordan-Fernald, located at 113 Franklin Street in Ellsworth, was purchased from the Jordan family in 1980. The original facility, built in 1942, was renovated in 2003 but still retains all of its old character.

A large new chapel for services that seat 150 people was completed in 2003 and includes a wide-screen television for use with memorial DVDs, that the funeral home can produce. The new wing has a separate area for private or family seating. Adjacent rooms are used for receptions, with a kitchen for food preparation. The facility also has central air conditioning.

The new modular selection rooms for both earth burial and cremation service offer a welcoming atmosphere along with a wide variety of options for families.
