Obituary for Melvin Anderson

Melvin “Mel” Anderson, 81, died unexpectedly November 3, 2014. He was born in North Amity, Maine, February 20, 1933, son of Kenneth and Florence (Lycette) Anderson.
Mel grew up in Aroostook County and graduated from Houlton High School in 1951. He married his wife of 62 years, Joanne Estabrook on June 5, 1952. They moved to Ellsworth in 1961. He was a 52 year member and past Master of the Lygonia Lodge #40, past Commander of Blanquefort Commandery, past High Priest of Acadia Chapter, past member of Anah Shrine Academicians, and Scottish Rite. He attended the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Ellsworth. He enjoyed helping others whenever he could. Mel was a very kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
He is survived by his wife Joanne; son, Calvin Anderson and wife Terri Jordan of Waltham; daughter, Deborah Decker and husband Duane of Ellsworth; granddaughters, Sarah Decker, MD, and Rachel Decker; brother, Richard Anderson and wife Rose and family; sister, Nancy Bernat and husband William; and many special friends. He was predeceased by his parents.
Calling hours will be held 3:00-5:00, Saturday, November 08, 2014 at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St. Ellsworth where a memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm with a Masonic service to follow.
