Condolence: To the Family of L.A. Meyer,

I write this as I currently procrastinate through my first year of law school. I came upon knowledge of the Old English King's Chancellor in my readings and was brought back to the Jacky Faber series. I remember tearing through Mr. Meyer's books in middle school. The historical fiction aspect gave me a great appreciation for world history, and the overall story following the power of reading was amazing.

I wanted to write to Mr. Meyer to inform him of the large impact he's had on my life through his stories, but it seems that opportunity has passed. I share this with his family instead. The world is less without this person of magic and wonder living on its surface, but it will forever be more with his creations and their impacts.

Rest in Peace.

Condolence: Annetje,

Please accept our belated condolences on your husband's passing. For some time now I have been wanting to write and tell you how sorry we were when we read the news. I wanted to share how much Illianna enjoyed the Jacky books. I remember looking at young adult books at the local Barnes & Noble when a teenage girl recommended Bloody Jack. So after reading the back cover, I bought it for my daughter. She started it just to "humor her mother" and could not put it down - she was hooked! Over the years, she recommended the books to almost everyone at her school and even portrayed Jacky for an English book report which was to be presented as a character from the book (we even used my father's Navy medals for her jacket). But most importantly, she borrowed Jacky's trait of "no new skill is a bad skill." She wants to learn as much as possible. I regret never writing this earlier when Mr. Meyer was still alive to thank him for a wonderful, strong, and determined female character and series of books that has inspired my daughter. I know that she is planning to hand down her Jacky books to her own children one day.

Condolence: I too feel the great loss of a great storyteller. Family & friends have loved listening almost daily over & over to all the J.Faber audios done by Ms Kelgren. It is like having a good friend tell you their story. Never tire of them, just keep playing them every eve, probably each 5 to 7 times over so far. Will listen forever! Sincerely Gennrich family

Condolence: Dear Mr. and Mrs. Meyer,
I write this to both of you, because it is clear that Jacky’s life and the telling is a joint effort, even without the website stating just how big a part Annetje plays.
My girlfriend, a retired judge who sat on the Los Angeles Superior Court and then the Court of Appeal initally told me about Jacky. I remember thinking, “How interesting could that be? A little orphan girl who goes to sea?” Well, I have now read or listened to all the stories up through Boston Jacky, with the exception of Viva Jacquelina. I am an attorney in Los Angeles and work with the mentally ill at the prisons throughout the state of California. Because of you, through Jacky, for the past year or so, I have looked forward to the hours on the road, listening to the amazing and talented Katy Kellgren as the events unfold. And for those days I know I will be home or office-bound, my love of all things Jacky is satisfied with the hard-cover books.
I wanted you to know just how much joy you have brought to my life through these pages. Not just the excitement of being with Jacky, her friends and not-such-good-friends, but for all the rich history, the music, and life’s little lessons that accompany her as she grows and matures.
Thank you so much for sharing your talents with the world.
Warm regards,
Susan Wolk
