Obituary for Lance Leroy Leffel

Lance Leroy Leffel, 66, died April 12, 2013 unexpectedly.
Seldom does a person lead such a rich and fulfilling life, on their own terms, in their own way, and in doing so, do so much good, touch so many lives, give so much, and care so deeply. Not for fame, glory or reward but simply for the heartfelt belief that helping others was just and right. (Georgie).
Lance was in the US Army serving from 1964-1969 in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the 1st Aviator Brigade, the 45th Transportation Battalion, and a helicopter gunner. Lance was led to the Lord in 1980 by Marjorie Rice of Great Falls, Montana, influencing him to live his life for God. Recovery Ministries was established in 1984. He founded, established and maintained a branch in Maine in 2003 with the help of his ex-wife and best friend, Jan Donnelly along with his long time friend, Marty Capitano. This mission was Lance’s legacy and in his honor, Marty will continue to follow this road and keep the dream and ministry alive.
His life was gentle, and the elements so mixed in him that nature might stand up and say to ALL the world “this was a man” – Shakespeare (Samsara Animal Refuge)
He is survived by two brothers, Val Leffel of Oregon, Doug Wills of the UK; two sisters, Rosanne and Deanna; son, David; Uncle Jess; and endless friends from coast to coast.
A graveside service will be held 2:00pm, Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Brimmer Cemetery, Pyle Road, Mariaville. A reception will follow at the Otis Baptist Church.
Contributions in Lance’s memory may be made to Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St. Ellsworth to help defray expenses.
