Obituary for Gladys F. Joyce

Swans Island
Gladys F Joyce of Swans Island passed away peacefully with family by her side on Friday May 22, 2015 at a Portland Healthcare Facility. She was born June 9, 1921 at Swans Island.
She was a life long member of Atlantic Baptist Church of Swans Island and was active in Ladies Aid mission work. She was president of the Baptist Ladies Aid for several years. She also taught Sunday School for many years. Gladys was active in Parent Teacher’s Club at the Swans Island school. She enjoyed her family and friends and loved to play games, do crosswords, sew, crochet and garden.
She is survived by a sister, Margurite Staples; children, David Joyce and wife Annette of Swans Island, Cheryl Kierstead and husband Steve of South Portland, Constance Plumer of China ME, Virginia Remick of Portland, James R. Joyce and wife Debra of Arizona, Philip Joyce and wife Bonnie of Glenburn; grandchildren and great-grandchildren are Caryn Remick with son Nathan Fogg, Michael Joyce, Justin Kierstead and wife Kimberly with children Jacob and Kailey, Michelle Mitchell, Andrew Plumer and wife Emely Leue with children Alexander and Morgan, Heather Kimball with son Liam, Jessica Condon and husband Bryan with children Grady, Lily and Rosie; nieces and nephews are Mary Johnson, Terry Staples, Peter Staples, Timothy Staples, Joyce Burns Knight and Russell Burns Jr. She was predeceased by her husband of nearly 60 years, James (Bradley) Joyce; her parents, Chester and Bessie Joyce, a son, Dennis W. Joyce; a granddaughter Amy Kierstead; a son-in-law Charles Plumer; two brothers, Keith Joyce and Roy Joyce; and a sister, Alice Burns.
Services were held at Atlantic Baptist Church, Swans Island at 12 PM on June 6, with her pastors H. Kenneth (Ken) Dutille and Tim B. Wagner participating. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Swans Island.
