Obituary for Eleanor R. Jordan

Mount Desert/Florida
Eleanor R. “Ellie” Jordan, 78, died July 12, 2013 at her home on Long Pond, Mt. Desert, She was born Nov. 11, 1934 in Northeast Harbor the daughter of Jackson L. and Louise A. (Galen) Reynolds.
Ellie graduated from Mt. Desert High School, Northeast Harbor in 1953. She then went to nursing school and became a Registered Nurse. She met and married on Dec. 13, 1958 the love of her life John E. “Jack” Jordan. They made their home in Seal Harbor where they raised two sons. While the children were young Ellie returned to school and graduated in the 1st class of Nurse Anesthetist from Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor. She worked at Mt. Desert Island Hospital for many years. Ellie had been a past member of the Congregational Church in Seal Harbor and a Life member of the Irene Chapter #97 Order of Eastern Star. Jack had been involved in the Anah Temple Shrine since 1959 and Ellie supported his work and dedication to the Shrine and his public service of being Hancock County Commissioner of over 20 years and the many organizations associated with both. Later in her life when she and Jack retired they traveled from their Mount Desert home on Long Pond, Somesville , to spend winters in Florida on St. Pete Beach, before moving their fulltime in 2006. Ellie continued to travel back and forth between Maine and Florida. Both of them became very active in the St. Pete Beach community spending many good times with the American Legion Post #125 in Gulfport, Fl. and Post #305 in St. Pete Beach, FL. She will be sadly missed by all of her Florida friends of the former Dicks Oasis in St. Pete Beach where Ellie and Jack had meet alot of life long friends. After 53 years of marriage Jack predeceased Ellie on May 21, 2011.
Ellie is survived by two sons, James E. Jordan, of Mt. Desert and Ronald D. Jordan, of Portland; two grandchildren, Jason E. Jordan and wife, Carrie and Brian J. Jordan. Also survived by a brother, Jackson L. Reynolds Jr. and family, sister, Shirley R. McGarr and family and sister’s-in-law: Esther Gorman and family and Judith Harvel and family.
Graveside Services will be held 9 am, Sat. August 10, 2013 at Seal Harbor Cemetery, Seal Harbor. Those who desire may make contributions in Ellie’s memory to the Northeast Harbor Ambulance Service, Inc., P.O. Box 122, Northeast Harbor, Me 04662 or the Mt. Desert Nursing Association, P.O. Box 397, Northeast Harbor, ME 04662.
