Obituary for Doris A. Reed

Bass Harbor
Doris C. Reed, 98, died April 30, 2014 in Bass Harbor. She was born December 10, 1915 in Stillwater, Maine the daughter of Asa and Frances(Blaney) Cunningham.
She graduated from Old Town High School in 1934 and Gorham Normal School in 1937. She received her B.S. degree from the University of Southern Maine in 1952 where she met her husband, W. Stanley Reed. She taught school at East Hebron, Porter Village, Sebago, West Old Town, Stillwater Village and Tremont. She taught a total of 39 years before retiring. Doris was a member of the Hancock County Retired Teachers Association and the Cornerstone Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, directed the children’s choir and sometimes filled in playing the piano. She loved to share her faith with anyone who seemed interested. She also played the piano for the Olsen Memorial Church for many years.
Doris is survived by two sons; Bradley Reed and wife, Dorothy of Bass Harbor and Dana Reed and wife, Katherine of Windham, ME. Grandchildren; Tina Reed, Bradley W. Reed and wife, Alyson, Asa and Gardner Reed, great-grandchildren, Abigail, Aaron, Andrew, Rachel, Rebekah, Laura, Joshua, Emily and Zachary. She was predeceased by her husband, W. Stanley Reed and a brother, Merle E. Cunningham , great-grandchildren, Robert Bradley and Toby Michael Jewett.
A memorial service will be held 11am, Sat. May 17, 2014 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, West Tremont.
In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make contributions in Doris’s memory to the Cornerstone Baptist Church, c/o Nadine Goodwin, 52 Dodge Point Road, Seal Cove, ME 04674, which was her passion.
