Obituary for William Frost Sweet
Hulls Cove
William Frost Sweet, 81, who died June 25, 2014, has gone on to become a great tour guide of the heavens in an endless trolley ride in the sky. He died at home in Hulls Cove, a village in Bar Harbor, where he was born.
Bill, overcoming polio at a tender age, grew up on the family dairy farm. H eattended school in Hulls Cove, graduated from Bar Harbor High School, and attended Gorham State Teachers College where he graduated with a Teaching Degree in the Manual Arts. He went on to teach generations of students how to skillfully work with their hands. After retiring he owned and operated Oli's Trolley. He guided untold numbers of tourists where he revealed the history and beauty of Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park. Bill was, and his family is, grateful of the assistance provided to him in his declining years from all of the wonderful, dedicated and caring people at Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County, Mount Desert Island Hospital, MDI Housing Authority's Meals on Wheels program and Island Connections. Donations in lieu of flowers to any of these organizations will strengthen their generous care, given to him, for future generations.
He is survived by his brother, John of Northeast Harbor; Lenny, a loving companion and mother of their children, William II, Lawrence, Marcella and her children, Dylan and Ella. Bill, the youngest, was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Lena; his brothers, Jerome, Hoyt, Marcus; sister, Isabel; and by his youngest son, Dana.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
