Obituary for William H. Glezen

Stonington
William Hayden Glezen, 87, died May 29, 2012 at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, April 6, 1925 the son of Carlisle S. and Mary H. (Townsley) Glezen.
William was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy Seabees and served in the Pacific Theatre. He was a graduate of University of Michigan with a degree in Geology and a graduate of Carnegie Mellon with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. William worked 35 years as a Research Geologist for the Gulf Oil Corporation and travelled the world exploring for oil and gas. During this time he also greatly advanced the field of geology’s understanding of the formation and deposition of sand dunes and sand bars. William enjoyed boating, sailing, gardening, animals, and was an avid reader. He and Barbara enjoyed traveling, especially to Spain and Portugal. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Stonington.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Barbara; sons, Carl Glezen and wife Denise of Houston, TX, Jonathan Glezen and wife Sandra ofGlendale, CA; daughter, Barbara McIntyre and husband Tom of Rockford, IL; grandchildren, David, Amy, Scott, Dillon and Natalie Glezen, Anya McIntyre; and great-grandchild, Jensen Glezen.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm, Sunday, June 10, 2012 at the United Methodist Church, Stonington with Pastor Stephen York officiating.
