Obituary for Thelma Elaine Whitney

Thelma Elaine Whitney, 101, died February 27, 2012 at a Bar Harbor healthcare facility. She was born August 6, 1910 in Bar Harbor, the daughter of Lester and Grace (Tucker) Hanson.
Thelma was the oldest of nine brothers and sister, born at home. She graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1926, then went to Normal School in Castine and graduated in 1928.
Thelma taught school for four years, then she married Arden Whitney, June 1932 and she raised one daughter. She later worked at MDI Hospital as a nurse’s aide until she retired in 1975.
She is survived by her daughter, Elaine and her husband, Merrill Seavey Jr. One brother, Steve Hanson and his wife, Carol. One sister, Emma and her husband, Fred Cunningham. Sister-in-laws, Barbara, Irene, and Eileen Hanson.Three grandchildren; Glenn Manring III, Lisa Manring and Betty Boghogian and six great-grandchildren; Glenn IV, Clora, Mairi, Amanda, Jared and Jessica. Many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Thelma was predeceased by three brothers; Lester “Bud” Hanson, Donnie Hanson and Reg Hanson and by three sisters; Myra Black, Charlette Otto and Helen Dorr.
Graveside services will be announced in the spring.
