Obituary for Sylvia H. Gott

Seal Cove
Sylvia H. Gott, 77, died January 5, 2014 at her home in Seal Cove. She was born, April 10, 1936 in Camden, the daughter of Rupert and Charlotte (Brown) Howard.
Sylvia was a 1955 graduate of Deer Isle High School and went to Washington State Teachers College, graduating in 1958. On June 26, 1957, Sylvia and Douglas A. Gott were married on Deer Isle. Sylvia and Douglas spent a number of years living and teaching in Hartland and then they moved to Stonington to teach. While teaching in Stonington they spent their summers in Southwest Harbor. She spent time working for Doug’s father at Gott’s Store and while Douglas started the construction business Sylvia helped with bookkeeping, and occasionally drove a dump truck. She enjoyed picking blueberries, swimming, crafting, sewing, making things for the church sales and the Ladies Auxiliary and she enjoyed cooking for others. Sylvia is a member of the Tremont Congregational Church, Ladies Aid and Sewing Circle. She was a board member of the former West Tremont Methodist Church and the former Sunset Congregational Church.
Sylvia is survived by her three sons, Timothy Gott and wife Beth of Seal Cove, Thomas Gott and wife Tammy of Southwest Harbor and Peter Gott and wife Jenny of Tremont; four grandchildren, Jennifer Gray, Melissa Gott, Michelle Miles and William Gott; six great-grandchildren, Olivia, Mollie, Lexi, Cooper, Lincoln and Bentley; a special sister, Joan Robbins. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Douglas.
Memorial services will be held, 2:00PM, Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the Tremont Congregational Church, with Reverend Wayne Buchanan officiating. A reception will follow at the parish hall after the service. Spring committal will be held at Hillrest Cemetery, West Tremont.
Contributions in Sylvia’s memory may be made to the Douglas and Sylvia Gott Scholarship Fund, MDI High School, c/o Mary Wallace, PO Box 180, Mt. Desert, ME 04660. This scholarship will be given to students that are going into the field of education.
