Obituary for Ruth L. Desmond

Ellsworth
Ruth L. Martin Desmond, 93, loving wife, mother and grandmother died October 11, 2011 at an Ellsworth hospital. She was born in Holbrook, MA., July 2, 1918 the daughter of Edward and Elsie (Wentworth) Martin.
Ruth graduated as valedictorian of her class from Holbrook High School. She married her husband, James Desmond on April 26, 1940. They moved to a farm in Milo where James and Ruth raised their three children, Leon, William, and Louise. Ruth lived on the farm alongside the Piscataquis River with James until his death in 1966. She worked as a bookkeeper in the Bangor area till her retirement. Ruth enjoyed crocheting. She was very active with the Ronald McDonald House and was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church for many years.
She is survived by her son, Leon Desmond and wife Anne; daughter, Louise Desmond Thomson and husband Garry of Collinsville, OK; grandchildren, James, Joseph, Jessica, Jeffrey, Jay, Patrick, Thomas and Jarred; great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Carly, Kaitlyn, Karen, and Rachael. She was predeceased by her husband; son, Bill in 2011; and grandson, John in 1994.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, October 14, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellsworth with Father Scott Mower, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Milo.
