Obituary for Ronald Wayne Libby

Sorrento
Ronald Wayne Libby, 76, died at his home in Sorrento February 8, 2015 with his wife Sandra by his side. He was born in Lincoln, March 16, 1938 the son of Leon A. and Georgia May (McGibney) Libby.
Ron graduated from Mattanawcook Academy in Lincoln, class of 1956. Following graduation, he married Sandra Pearle McCormick of Lincoln and they moved to Connecticut where he worked as a tool and die maker for seven years. They moved back to Maine in 1963 and Ron joined the Maine State Police. Moving to Sorrento in 1965, he started patrolling Hancock County and after ten years was promoted to Corporal Detective. He was well-respected and known for his fairness. Ron retired after twenty years and spent time hunting and fishing. This led to fulfilling his dream of going to Alaska. In 1987, he and Sandra spent the summer camping, fishing and enjoying the beauty of that state. He also enjoyed his woodshop, building furniture, toys for grandchildren, and cedar strip canoes. He will be remembered for his great story-telling and sense of humor.
Ron is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sandra; daughters, Pam Fowler of Brooksville, Ronda Nichols and husband Jim of Sandy Point; son, Chris and wife Mary of Hancock; daughter-in-law, Mary Anne of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Eric Hutchins and wife Erin of Brooksville, Ryan Hutchins and wife Amanda of Westbrook, Anna Libby and husband Lucas Rumler of Mt. Vernon, Maisie Libby of Mt.Vernon, Rosa Libby of Phillips, Angelina Nichols of Seattle, Will and Kyle Nichols of Sandy Point, Maria and Charlie Libby of Hancock; great-grandchildren, Ella and Layla Hutchins of Brooksville; brothers, Robert and wife Perlene of Lee, Barry and wife Trudy of Lincoln, and Jim and wife Ellen of Lincoln; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ron was predeceased by his parents; son, Russell in 2012; sons-in-law, Darrell Fowler and Tim Hutchins.
On Ron’s request there will be no funeral service. There will be a memorial gathering at a later date.
