Obituary for Robert Francis Whalen, Sr

Sullivan
Robert Francis Whalen, Sr., 81, died February 15, 2014 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor surrounded by his family. He was born on February 9, 1933 on the Track Road in Sullivan, the son of Cecil and Mabel (Strout) Whalen.
Bob enjoyed watching birds and wildlife at his home in Sullivan. He adored his many pets. He took great pleasure in plowing snow and he made the best chocolate peanut butter fudge in the world! He was loved by his loyal friends and family. He was a devoted husband and father.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Sarah (Rowland) Whalen; son, Robert Whalen Jr., and his fiancée Adrienne Pomeroy, Robert Jr.’s children, Katie, Michael, Miranda, Jasper, and Lily; daughter, Rogena Whalen, and her children, Henry, Bobbie Jean, Ayla, and Keith; daughter, Rhonda Whalen, and her fiancé, Edwin King, Rhonda’s children, Casey, Jonathan, Brittany, and Eric; daughter, Roxanna Sullivan, and her children, Justin, Joseph, and Jacob; daughter, Jackie Hanselman, and her fiancé, Michael Scott, Jackie’s children, Nicole and Kristofer; daughter, Elise Whalen, and her fiancé, Charles Furer; ten great-grandsons, and eight great-granddaughters; sister, Virginia Olive Lewis, and her husband, John, sister, Carol Ann Merrill, and brother, Omar Whalen, and his wife, Helen; many beloved nieces and nephews; special friends, James and Sheila Guthrie, Meghan (Amy) and Andrew Birdsall, Cynthia and Thomas Reilly, Leslie Diodati, Susan Goodman, and Doris Plumer. He was predeceased by his brothers, Chandler, Cecil, Ronald, Bertram, Archie, Gardner, Roy, Lawrence (Skipper), and Clyde; his sisters, Hazel, Juanita, Josie, Ruth, Barbara, Estella, Audrey, Gloria, and Jeannette.
A funeral service will be held at Saint Dustan’s Church, 134 State Street, Ellsworth on Thursday, February 20, at 1:30pm with the Reverend Johanna-Karen Johannson officiating. There will be a reception after the service.
