Obituary for Richard D. Strout

Bar Harbor
Richard D. Strout, 63, died October 25, 2012 at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Bar Harbor, May 7, 1949, a son of Edward L. and Herthel T. Strout.
Richard was a graduate of Bar Harbor High School. He was a US Army Veteran serving in the Vietnam War and then served in the US Air National Guard. While in the service, he received the Vietnam Campaign Medal, The Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Parachute Badge, Vietnam Service Medal and the Combat Infantrymen’s Badge 1st Award. Richard worked for the Town of Mt. Desert, and Acadia National Park. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, maintaining his property and spending time with family and friends. He will be fondly remembered by the Emerson School staff.
He is survived by his loving girlfriend of 14 years, Barbara Acorn; son, Richard Strout, Jr. of East Machias, and Michael Strout and wife Danna of Granville, NY; daughter, Theresa Dempsey of Columbia; grandchildren, Hunter and Schylar Dempsey, Lilly and Isacc Strout; special buddy, Damien Wilcomb; brothers, Ronnie, Bill, Robert, Steve, Alan, and Edward; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Eddie Spurling. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Larry, and sister Peggy.
Calling hours will be held 4:00-6:00 pm, Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St, Mt. Desert. A graveside service with full military honors will be held 10:00 am, Monday, October 29 at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor with Rev. Mary-Carol Griffin officiating.
