Obituary for Reginald A. Kane

Ellsworth
Reginald A. Kane passed away June 6, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Ellsworth, April 11, 1928, son of Forrest Albert and Margaret (Saunders) Kane.
Reggie worked for Harry Kaiser as a woodcutter. He then worked construction for Raymond Sargent, helping build the Lamoine State Park pier and the U.S. Navy base in Cutler. Reggie then worked for the City of Ellsworth Highway Department. After he left the City, he went to work full time in his junk yard, “R. Kane & Sons”; he was a mechanic and welder, and ran the junk yard for 48 years. He had a number of lobster boats and spent time fishing and lobstering. He was a racecar driver and sponsor, known as “Roll over Reggie”. This was a family event that all his sons and wife Greta participated in. Reggie was a longtime member of the Union River Harbor Commission, member of the Odd Fellows Club of Ellsworth, Blue Hill Rifle & Pistol Club, and was a certified scuba diver.
He is survived by sons, Ricky, David, and Ronnie Kane all of Ellsworth, Bobby Kane and wife Lori of Hancock, Gary and partner Sueann Sargent of Trenton, daughters, Cheryl Keep of Ellsworth, and Pye Haslam and partner, Matt McDevitt of Eastbrook; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother, Robert Kane and wife Ruth of Surry; sister, Gloria Young and husband Elwood of Lynchburg, VA; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends Sharon M. Kane and Skip Taylor. He was predeceased by his wife, Greta; daughter, Karen Kane; son, Bruce Kane; two sons-in-law, Timothy Haslam, and Daniel Keep.
Calling hours will be held 5:00-7:00, Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St. Ellsworth where a funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 11th with Pastor Bob Maddocks officiating.
