Obituary for Raymah Marion Leavitt

Franklin
Raymah Marion (DeBeck) Macomber Leavitt, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 26, 2014 at MCMH, Ellsworth. She was born December 3, 1922 at the DeBeck homestead in West Franklin, during a snow storm, the 8th child of Percy and Jessie (Long) DeBeck.
Raymah was a direct descendant of the founder of East Blue Hill, Joel Long. She grew up in West Franklin and attended the two story schoolhouse across the street from her home. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1941 and Maine School of Commerce in 1942, now Husson University. She worked for five years as a stenographer in Bangor before meeting and marrying Allan B. Macomber in October 1948 on his birthday. They were married 27 years before he passed in 1976. She remarried in 1985 Sterling H. Leavitt of Dunedin, FL. who passed in 1995. Raymah took great pride in her home (nest) where she enjoyed being most and was a marvelous dessert cook. She joined the Franklin Methodist Church in 1948 and served in any way she could for the betterment of her church family. Her most admirable attribute was her ability to always "turn the other cheek" and "forgive and forget!" We will never forget her place in our lives through thick and thin and we have the many memories to prove it!
She is survived by one son, Mark Macomber of St. Petersburg, Florida; one daughter, Karen Macomber and her husband Ron Thomas of Franklin; two cherished granddaughters, Leslee Raye Differ and her husband Daniel of Franklin, MA., and Dr. Joslyn Jane Brenton and her husband Peter Kelly of Ithaca, NY; four delightful great-grandchildren, Jack, Miles, Quinn, and Little Miss Clara. They made her day whenever they went to "Grammie Raye's!"; one step-daughter, Patricia Leavitt Ellis and her husband Hugh of Brooksville, FL.; also many nieces and nephews. It was a large and wonderful family. She passed through this life with a corps of special nieces, who were always nearby and there for her no matter what the situation; they are Ellie, Jackie, Bev, Sandra, Betty, Carol Ann, and Bess. She was predeceased by her parents and many siblings, Olive, Raymond (Bus), Harvard (Kelly), Hayden, Edward (Skutch), and Kenneth and their spouses.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 02, 2014 at the Franklin Methodist Church. Interment will be in Bayview Cemetery, Franklin.
Contributions in Raymah’s memory may be made the Franklin Methodist Church, PO Box 268, Franklin ME 04634.
