The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Ralph Pettie can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

The lighting of a Memorial Candle not only provides a gesture of sympathy and support to the immediate family during their time of need but also provides the gift of extending the Book of Memories for future generations.

I am also a former student from Greenwich High School and he was my favorite teacher and had such great influence on me. I am sorry that I did not visit Mr. Pettie after he retired, although we did correspond via letters while I was in college and my mother did help me throw him an absolutely fantastic "high tea" at her house in full English style with a group of us former Class of '88 students, not long after we graduated and before he moved. "Scones ! Clotted cream!" he exclaimed with joy at the tea. "However did you manage to get these?" (Thanks, Mom). My favorite line of his was, "Are there any comments, intelligent... or otherwise?" I wish I had seen him in later years. I will always remember him, the Shakespearean sonnet he made each of us choose for ourselves and memorize, and hearing him read aloud from various English poets (James Joyce comes to mind). And thanks, Greg Salerno for remaining me about the "attendance shop" in your remarks below ! Condolences to the Pettie family.
