Obituary for Norman J. Mylen

Calais, Charlotte & Trenton
Norman J. Mylen, 81, died February 25, 2015 surrounded by his loving family and in the arms of his loving wife. He was born in Calais on March 4, 1933, one of two sons of Clarence and Hazel (Dunn) Mylen.
He graduated from Calais High School, class of 1951. Norman married his childhood sweetheart Barbara (Smith) Mylen on May 29, 1954 and their loving bond of almost sixty one years of marriage was unbreakable. They first met in kindergarten and were inseparable since this first meeting when Norman requested Barbs' help in getting directions back to his new house. Norman had numerous friends over the years, but three that he was especially close with were Floyd McGlinchey and Wimmie Donovan both of Calais and the late Chet Sherrard of Charlotte and Davenport, FL. Norm worked construction as an IBEW electrician for numerous years. He was a member of IBEW local 1253 for almost 60 years. In 1973, Norman started his own company, Mylen Electrical which he and Barb operated for twenty three years. He was an active member of the Lion's Club of Calais, serving once as King Lion. He was a member of the Anah Shrine of Bangor and also was a Master Mason and life member of St. Croix Lodge #46.
Norman leaves his beloved wife Barbara; two daughters, Sherrie Doyon and husband Moe of Winthrop, Cindy Brown and husband Lee of Trenton; a son, Jeff Mylen and wife Jeri of Mountain View, CA .; eight grandchildren, Matthew Doyon and wife Samara of Windham, Lucas Doyon and wife Rachel of Saco and Kaitlin Merchant and husband David of Addison, Jason Mylen and companion Maridawn Lamb of Mountain View, CA, Greg Mylen of Winthrop, MA, and Michael Mylen of Mountain View, CA. , Melissa Cady and husband Eliot of Biddeford and Jeremy Brown of Nasuha, NH; three precious great-grandchildren, Emery, Isaac, and Nadia; one brother-in-law, Jack Smith and wife Sally of Calais; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Hazel Mylen; and brother, Jimmy.
No services will be held. A memorial for Norman will be held later this summer (tentatively Sunday, July 5th) in central Maine. More information will be provided at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations are being encouraged to be sent to the American Heart Association, 51 US Route 1, Suite M. Scarborough, 04074.
