The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Norman Dodge can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Betsy Lynn Snow

Dear Martha, Laurie, Christine and family: When I first started my Park Service career, Norm was the chief ranger at Acadia and I was the Secretary to Keith Miller and then later, Lowell White. I have two kind stories about him. During the time I worked at Acadia, I dated an older man who I loved very much. We danced on Friday nights up at Hulls Cove; I don't recall the name of the place. On one occasion, you and Norm were there and Norm came over to me concerned about whether I should be dating Henry. It was as if Norm was my surrogate father and he was watching out for his daughter. Although we never married, Henry and I remained friends for many years. Much later in 1990, I had resigned from the NPS and had recently graduated from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, where I still live. I needed a summer job before moving to Tucson to attend law school, so I wrote Norm and asked if I could return for the summer, perhaps to work at Blackwoods CG. At 6:00 a.m. one morning, Norm had one of his supervisors call me and offer me a job, forgetting of course about the three-hour difference in time. Although I later decided to work at Grand Canyon that summer, I remember fondly that Norm didn't hesitate to bring me back noncompetitively after all those years. My best wishes to you and all of your family.
