Condolence: Henri,
I never knew any of the history of your Mom. What a woman, wow. She got to 96 and my mom got to 101 and died in 2009. Must be that Vermont water that gives the that long life. Mary and I were at the Palace in San Francisco a year ago and now I have another connection to that great hotel. The bar is the Pied Piper or really named after the artist. Hope you are well. We are moving to Bend, Oregon next week to ski and shoot.
All the best,
Mike

Condolence: I feel honored and blessed to have spent many years with Nancie at the Monteux School. She cared for me as one of her own and shared many wonderful life stories. Her love and devotion to the students and the music empowered all of us to be at our best.It is truly a tribute to her that the school continues to live on.
I have finally mastered her ratatouille recipe and know she would merely reply:"its about time"
Love and peace to the entire family.
All my best,
Sally

Condolence: Chère Nancie, The sad news came yesterday in a letter from our common friend June A. Davis. This brings back lovely memories of wonderful days spent with you. We first met as neighbours in Mount Vernon in 1958 and then visited Hancock on many occasions. We stayed at l'Auberge in Vermont, wonderful inn with a french atmosphere; we attended concerts at the Monteux school and were priviledged to meet the Maestro and Doris Monteux.
Few people can leave such a profound impact on someone's memory as you did with us. You were I think the dearest friend of my late wife Janine. I remember lovely evenings in your home in Hancock, your visit here at La Rochelle with June, the Monet gardens at Giverny. Nancie, Thank you for giving us so much in all these years.
My condolences to Pierre-Jacques, Giggy, Jeppy and Robby. With loving memory. Maurice Souchaud. La Rochelle. France.

Condolence: Some of my finest memories as conducting student there, 1979-85, were my interactions with Nancie. She cared deeply about the school and the students, and could by turns be witty and stern--sometimes at the same time! She always found nice housing for late wife Jan and I, and the summer we came with our 1-year-old son she helped us arrange sitters and actually helped with our baby herself sometimes. All this shows how much she cared for us as individuals, not just as names on a list. We will all miss you, Nancie.

Condolence: My husband, conductor Franz Vote, and I express our sincere condolences to the family of Nancie Monteux Barendse. As a participant at the Pierre Monteux Domaine School in the late 1970s, I knew Nancie quite well because she was the school's director at that time. In fact, she taught me one of the most important things I ever learned in life - the importance of having integrity and accepting responsibility, even when you are wrong. After Pierre Monteux summers I won my first orchestra position, largely due to the marvelous opportunities offered by the School for orchestra musicians. Thankfully, I wrote a letter of thanks to Nancie a few years ago. She will be greatly missed by many musicians who were privileged to know her at the School. Fondest Regards, Linda Marianiello
