Condolence: We've had the priviledge of being "in-laws" of the Barmat family for the past 20+ years. Mel loved his family, and together with Dolores, always welcomed us as members of the family. We send all our best wishes and condolences. Distance does not diminish our shared sense of loss. We will miss him.

Condolence: More comments from professional friends:
Don,

I just learned that Mel passed away recently. I am deeply saddened. You might not know this, but he was a mentor to me and I have never forgotten how well he treated me and how much knowledge he imparted freely and generously. I don't know if I could have developed my practice without his guidance in my early days of satellite communications work. I was hired at NTIA in the early days of the Reagan Administration in the Chief Counsel's office when so many people has been pink slipped, reassigned or otherwise treated fairly poorly -- he among them. He had no reason to be nice to me as he could have taken me as a plant by the new Administration (which I was not; I simply needed a job in a very bad market). Nonetheless, he took me under his wing and showed me the ways of Comsat/Intelsat and taught me the basics of satellite communications. The rest is history.

I owe him a debt of gratitude and then some. He was a wonderful human being, a very caring person and someone who had a tremendous ability to give. He will always remain in my thoughts and prayers. I am sorry for your loss of a friend and partner; I can only imagine his family's sadness.

When you have time, please send me his wife's mailing address, I would like to send her my condolences.

Sincerely,

Raul Rodriquez

Condolence: I am very sorry to learn of Mr. Barmat's passing. I was his pharmacist for many
years. More importantly and aside from that, we had many conversations about a variety of subjects whenever he came in. He was an interesting and likable man who had more than his share of physical pain to endure. My condolences to Mrs. Barmat and all of his family.

Don, I'm very sorry to hear about this. My heartfelt condoleances to his family.
> I'd been wondering about his whereabout for a while. The last we talked probably a couple of years or so, he was discussing some foundation one of his children was involved in (sickle cell or so), and I never saw him at any meetings after that...a honorable man indeed...
> Thank you so much for letting us know about this. Best regards, Angela.Mimo, Intelsat
