Obituary for Luke T. Krebs

Luke Timothy Krebs, 49, beloved father, son, brother, husband and friend, died much too soon May 30, 2014. He was born November 15, 1964, to Luke “Ted” and Marilynne “Lynne” Grimsley Krebs in Lawrence, Kansas.

Luke was raised in Pullman, Washington where he graduated from high school, earned his bachelor’s degree in Education and then his a Ph.D. in Pharmacology Toxicology from Washington State University. Every summer from 1986 to 1992, Luke worked as a smokejumper in McCall, Idaho, a job he truly loved. After receiving his doctorate in 1998, he took a research position at The Jackson Laboratory where he worked until 2011. Luke then moved on to Maine Medical Center Research Institute where he worked until he was diagnosed with stage IV adrenocortical carcinoma.
Luke was proud of his many accomplishments in school and at work but mostly he was proud to be a Dad. He had a passion to fish, which he shared with his sons and father, always determined to garner the biggest fish.
In addition to his parents, he leaves behind two children, Luke and Nicholas Krebs; his wife, Lauren Koncinsky; a sister Marcia Reis and her husband Phil; nephews Joshua and his wife Michelle Checkis, Jonathan Checkis and niece Krislyn Checkis; a special aunt, Judy Grimsley; and many other aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and their children. His sister, Krista, preceded him in death in 2009.
A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main Street, Somesville followed by a gathering at the Krebs house, 10 Leighton Road, Bass Harbor.
