Obituary for Lillian Marion Sherman

Lillian Marion (Hill) Sherman, 86, died at a Bangor hospital, December 17, 2014, surrounded by her loving family after a 4 year struggle with a heart condition and cancer. She was born April 07, 1928, in Brooklyn NY, the daughter of William E. and Violet Louise (Weekes) Hill.
Lillian graduated from Hunter College, class of 1949. She received her M.A. from Hunter College in 1952. Lillian was married to Allen Sherman in 1954. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in July. Lillian received her elementary school teaching certificate in June 1949. She taught grades 3-6 in the New York City Public School system. She had a magnificent sense of devotion to the education of her children. She specialized in reading improvement and enrichment areas. Language arts and social studies were fields of special interest. Her favorite novel to share with her 5th grade classes was The Yearling. Lillian retired from teaching in 1994. Lillian enjoyed reading, writing poetry, solving crossword puzzles, traveling and dining out with Allen in New York City.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Allen Sherman; daughters, Jeanne L. Sherman and partner Joseph A. Jantzen of Trenton, ME, Jennifer L. Sherman and husband John P. Dineen of Bayside, NY; one granddaughter, Bridget T. Dineen of Bayside, NY; one brother, Roy E. Hill and wife Alma of Brooklyn, NY; two sisters, Mary Jane Fils-Aime and husband Alix of Lakeville, PA, Mildred A. Espino and husband Juan H. of Hawley, PA; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers, William H. Hill and Richard Hill.
A service of remembrance will be held on December 29, 2014 at McLaughlin & Sons, in Brooklyn, NY.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in Lillian’s memory be made to the SPCA of Hancock County, 141 Bar Harbor Road, Trenton 04605
