Obituary for Laverne Adelle Griffin

Waltham
LaVerne Adelle (Hardison) Griffin, 88, died July 17, 2014 of heart failure at an Ellsworth hospital. She was born in Waltham, August 15, 1925 the daughter of Arthur and Elvellyn (Kemp) Hardison.
LaVerne attended schools in Waltham and Ellsworth. She was an early member of the Jolly Jr’s 4-H Club. LaVerne was a welder at the Bath Iron Works during WWII. Her sense of adventure landed her in Louisiana where she met her future husband, Bob. They continued to travel and settled in Granville, Ohio. They enjoyed their camper and the RV Club and made many friends where ever they went. In their retirement, they split their time between Ohio, Edwater, FL, and Waltham. After her husband’s passing, she returned to settle in her hometown. She enjoyed the social life and her exercise groups. LaVerne was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star Eagon, Chapter #123 and a member of the American Legion Post #0398, both of Granville, Ohio. She was also a member of the Eagles Lodge of Buckeye Lake, Ohio.
She is survived by her brothers, Merrill Hardison of Franklin, Floyd Hardison and wife Norma; sister-in-law, Verna Hardison all of Waltham; a special niece, Joannie Hardison Jodrey and husband David and their children, Monica, Arthur, and Norman; and lots of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Kenneth (Bob) Griffin who passed on this same day in 1998; sisters, Wilda, Dora, and Leota; and brother, Robert.
A funeral service will be held 2:00pm, Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St. Ellsworth. A family committal will be at Hillside Cemetery, Waltham. Friends are invited to Aunt LaVerne’s party following the funeral at the Eastbrook Community Center.
LaVerne had such a zest for life and wanted to be a part of any gathering. Her famous quote was “if you don’t want me to go, don’t ask”.
