Obituary for John Fortier

South Portland
Reverend John Fortier, 81, died April 22, 2013 in Scarborough. He was born February 5, 1932 in Portland, the son of Frank and Bernice (Fitzmorris) Fortier.
John is a 1951 graduate of Portland High School, 1959 graduate of Gorham State Teachers College and a 1988 graduate of New England Bible College. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany. John married Janet Freeman in 1954. He taught at the Swan’s Island School, Lyseth School in Portland, was principal of East Belfast School and the Ralph M. Atwood Primary School of Oakland. He was assistant superintendent of SAD 6, and superintendent of schools at Danforth and Vanceboro. After retiring from education, he served as pastor at the Bramhall Community Church until 2012. He enjoyed boating, Civil War history and spending time with family, friends and his cat, Annie.
John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janet of South Portland; daughters, Jeanne and husband Forrest King of Scarborough, Judy and husband, Jeff Chaskin of Coral Springs, FL.; son, Jim and wife Christina Fortier of Maricopa, AZ; grandchildren, Andrew King of Bangor, Delaney and Lucas Fortier of Maricopa, AZ; sisters, Nancy Beckwith of Otisfield and Glennis Fitzpatrick of Scarborough, and his cat Annie. He was predeceased by his parents.
Services will be announced at a later date. Interment will be at Brookside Cemetery, Mt. Desert, ME.
