Obituary for Joan Carol Ryan

Ellsworth
Joan Carol (Patterson) Ryan, 70, passed away October 22, 2014 in Ellsworth. She was born in Hampden, November, 03, 1943, the youngest of four children to Fred and Marian (Dexter) Patterson.
The family moved to Osborn and Joan attended Ellsworth High School. She worked at the Ellsworth American for many years. She was a member of the VFW Post#109 and the Ladies Auxiliary. In 1988 Joan married Bernard Ryan and they moved to the Bayside Road.
She is survived by her beloved husband Bernie of 26 years; children, Scott Grindle and wife Jan and their children, Eric Haslam and wife Jen, Angela Williams and husband Jacob; daughter, Kerry Guildford and husband Leigh and their children, Brandon Tupper and wife Amanda, Heidi Tupper and fiancée Cliff Winslow, Rebecca Prefontaine and wife Jessica, and Jennifer Guildford; Bernie’s children, Elizabeth Diane Ryan and wife Carol and their children, Bernard Ryan and Elizabeth Craig, Michael Ryan and wife Debbie and their daughter, Jacqueline, and Julie Ann Ryan; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Dennis Patterson and wife Deanna of Hampden; special niece, Karen Beal; her special canine friend, Bud. She was predeceased by her parents; stepfather, Sam Makevich; brother, Charles Patterson; and sister, Janis Evans.
A celebration of life will be held at the Ellsworth VFW Post#109, Eastern Road, Ellsworth at 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 1, 2014.

A special thank you to Courtland Rehab & Living Center and Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, ICU staff who made a difficult time as easy as possible.
