J.D. was a man who was committed to the course of action that he chose. His gift on the football field was his toughness and ability to fight through obstacles that came up. He was great to coach and did everything I asked. He played multiple positions, but his play at strong side defensive end was a big reason for our 9 and 0 season in 2008. JD traveled 5 days a week to play football and I can't remember a day he missed practice. We traveled 70 miles a day round trip from Bangor. J.D had won a football scholarship to Oiivet College in Michigan but chose to serve his country. We were all proud of his military service and proud of his example as a strong Christian man. As a young man J.D. blessed me and his team-mates in so many ways: Christian leadership, perseverance, generosity, self sacrifice, talent.. We had so many talented and 'driven' young men that year J.D. recognized from the beginning that you may not get the position that you want, but when you get it, you surrender yourself to its demands. As we all found out that season: 2 Corinthians 4:17.... our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; and Romans 8:28 All things work together for good to those who love God and are the called to His purpose. Thank you J.D.for blessing me and giving me the privilege to coach you. and I pray that any heaviness of grief will be lifted from his spouse and family and friends knowing where J.D. is now, that he is not gone. Have no doubt...he had none.
