Obituary for Harland E. Jordan

Waltham
Harland E. Jordan, 89, died peacefully at home on December 22, 2013 after a long and full life. He was born in Waltham, May 17, 1924 the son of Earle K. and Mabel (Salsbury) Jordan.
Harland graduated from Ellsworth High School class of 1942. After graduation, he worked on the farm with his father and brothers. In 1944, he entered the US Army and served during WWII as an Infantryman in the 52nd Armored Infantry Battalion serving in Central Europe where he was wounded in combat and awarded the Purple Heart. After returning from the war, he met and married Irene F. Delano with whom he shared 55 years of marriage who predeceased him in 2004. They spent many pleasant winters at their home in Zephyrhills where they enjoyed the weather among many friends, family and of course, shuffle boarding. He returned from war to the family farm in Waltham where he worked side by side with his father and brothers. Throughout his working life, he especially enjoyed the blueberry season and all the “fun” that goes with it. He continued to rake with his family until his 83rd year. Harland served the town of Waltham for 29 years as tax collector and treasurer. He loved the community of Waltham and always had its best interest at heart. He was also committed to the Masonic body as a member of Lygonia #40, past high priest of Acadia Chapter, R.A.M. #31, past commander of Blanquefort Commandary #13, member of the Bangor Council #5, as well as a member of Anah Temple Shrine and Scottish Rite Bodies.
He is survived by his children, daughter, Gail Hare and husband Stephen of Ellsworth, son, Stephen Jordan and wife Kim of Waltham, son, Dana Jordan and wife Mary Ann of Barre, Mass, daughter, Mary Jordan and husband Joe of Waltham, daughter, Barbara Yankowsky and husband Mike of Gorham. He was blessed with ten grandchildren, Christina, Patrick, Jason, Melanie, Stephanie, Andrea, Chadd, Brett, Alex, and Marc; six great-grandchildren, Karly, Paige, Oliva, Brennen, Colby, and Lincoln. He was predeceased by brothers, Roger and Franklin; sisters, Esther Cousins, Merle Jordan, Hildred Herrick, and infant sister, Ida Gail.
Friends and family are invited to call 5:00-7:00, Thursday, December 26, 2013 with a Masonic service to follow at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St. Ellsworth where a celebration of Harland’s life will be held 11:00, Friday, December 27th with Pastor John Walsh officiating. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Waltham in the spring.
