Obituary for Grace E. McPheters

Grace Eleanor McPheters, 91, died October 15, 2011 at a Bar Harbor healthcare facility. She was born July 22, 1920 in Braintree, VT. the daughter of Frank A. and Florence (Bigford) Williams.
She grew up in Palmer, MA and graduated from Palmer High School in 1940. She married Donald Reed McPheters on March 27, 1942. They moved to Northeast Harbor in the late 1940’s and lived on the William Burden Estate where Don served as caretaker until 1984.
Grace was a faithful member of the Union Congregational Church, UCC of Northeast Harbor. She enjoyed watching the Red Sox, doing crossword puzzles and feeding the birds.
Grace is survived by a daughter Norma McPheters, of Northeast Harbor, a grandson, Peter Beckett, of Hulls Cove, a special niece, Claire Clough and husband, Alan and their family, of Ware, MA; and several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Harry Hogate; sister, Ruth Carrington and brother Frederick Williams.
At Grace’s request there will be no visiting hours. A Memorial Service will be held 1pm, Sunday, Oct.23, 2011 at the Union Congregational Church, Northeast Harbor with Rev. Linda Hatch presiding with a reception at the parish house to follow. Private interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Northeast Harbor.
