Obituary for Gloria J. Bursey

Trenton
Gloria J. Bursey, beloved wife and mother, went home to be with her Lord on October 15, 2014. She was born in Somerville, MA., on October 24, 1927, to Harold and Mildred (Bastion) Malkson.
Though she was not born in Maine, Gloria’s ties to Maine run deep in her family history, and she was proud of her Maine heritage. She often spoke fondly of the summers she spent in Maine with her parents, and she later moved here permanently with her husband George, and two youngest children. Maine definitely held a special place in her heart. In later years Gloria and her husband split their time between Maine and Titusville, Florida. Their community families in Trenton and Titusville became near and dear to their hearts.
Gloria loved her homes, but her true loves were God, her husband, her children and music. These were the cornerstones of her life. She placed her trust in Jesus Christ, as her personal Savior, and she was one that exhibited His grace and gentleness, even in the toughest of trials. People have always commented on her sweet demeanor. Even in her last days, those caring for her marveled at how she always had a smile on her face.
She is survived by her husband, George. They have been inseparable for nearly 49 years of marriage. They truly loved one another. This was pictured most beautifully in the last few days as George quietly demonstrated his care and concern for Gloria, when a care giver observing them asked if they had always been this way. The answer is yes. They were always there for each other. George will greatly miss his best friend. Another of Gloria’s great loves were her children and grandchildren. Even though she loved living in Maine, there was always a part of her that never moved here, as some of her children and grandchildren lived out of state. She loved spending time with them. She will be missed by all of us.
She is survived by her daughter Robin Parsons, and husband Kenny of Nashua, New Hampshire, along with their children Shauna and Caitlin; her daughter Debbie Jones of Bedford, MA.; her son Scott Bursey and his wife Terri of Topsham, along with their children Alex, Evan and Kristen; her son Mark Bursey and his wife Kim of Bucksport, along with their children Madelyn and Emma; her stepson Michael and wife Shelly of Belmont, New Hampshire, and their son Michael; her step-grandson George Bursey and wife Beckie of Coventry, Rhode Island, along with their children Noah and Cole; her step-granddaughter Keri and her husband Dave Lavoie of Barrington, Rhode Island, along with their children Devon and Dillon; and her step-granddaughter Melissa Longello of Palm Bay, Florida, and her children Trent, Joshua and Derek. She was predeceased by her grandson Ryan Parsons; stepson George Bursey and stepdaughter Linda Bursey. Gloria will be missed by all!
The last of Gloria’s loves was music. For so many years this was her life. She used to sing professionally on the radio, and during World War II, she ministered to the injured troops by singing to the closed wards of the VA hospital, while her mom played the piano. She used her talents to sing in the church. When she was no longer physically able to sing, it impacted her greatly. She was blessed with a gift that touched many.
A private memorial service will be held.
