Obituary for George R. Lambert Jr.

George R. Lambert Jr., 89, died in Bar Harbor, October 22, 2011. He was born in Bar Harbor, April 10, 1922 the son of George R. and Susan F. (McSorley) Lambert, Sr.
He graduated from Bar Harbor High School, class of 1942. Served in U.S. Army during WWII as Tech Sergent, Cannon Co., 389th Infantry Regiment and Section Chief in the European Theater. He was among the first soldiers to receive the “Expert Infantrymans Badge.” He was a 100th Century Division Ranger.
George worked for the Bar Harbor Water Company for many years, retiring as Superintendant in 1987. He was a Captain with the Fire Dept.; served on the town council; was a Rotarian and member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. George enjoyed time spent with his family and friends at his cottage on Long Pond.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Claire; sons, George R. Lambert III of Bar Harbor, Jeffrey F. Lambert and wife Denise of Spokane, WA; daughters, Melissa Sue Anderson of Cape Elizabeth, Leslie Jean Lambert of Stonington; sister, Sadie Cunningham; sister-in-law, Barbara Lambert both of Bar Harbor; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brother, James Lambert, brother-in-law, Ralph (Joe) Cunningham; niece, Diane (Cunningham) Nadeau.
A graveside service with military honors will be held 1:00 pm, Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor.
