Obituary for George R. Howard

Ellsworth
George Robert Howard, 98, died February 17, 2015 at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born November 22, 1916 in Lowell, MA the son of Joseph and Leah Belle (Flewelling) Howard.

George graduated from Lowell High School and made his home on the North Shore of Massachusetts living in the Lawrence and Lowell area. He met and married Bertha A. Allen and they had a daughter, Barbarann.
George entered the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. After serving in the military he returned to Massachusetts to work at the first nuclear power plant in Western MA. He eventually became the watch engineer at the plant retiring in 1977. George lived in Haverhill, MA until the death of Bertha in 1994. In 2003 he moved to Maine to live with his grandson, Matt and his family. George had been a member of the Pentucket Lodge A.F. & A.M. , Lowell, MA from 1947-1962, Mountain Lodge A.F. & A.M. , Shelburne Falls, MA from 1960-1993 and the Lygonia Masonic Lodge #40 A.F. & A. M. from 2004-2015; the Anah Shrine #1188, Bangor and a member of the Nascar Unit. He had many interests including boating, skiing, airplanes, automobiles and spending time with his family.
George is survived by 2 grandsons, Matthew Foster and wife Melissa and Michael Foster, all of Ellsworth; 2 great-granddaughters, Aislinn Foster and Aliza Dwyer; a special friend and caretaker, Rebecca Crockett. He was predeceased by his wife Bertha and daughter, Barbarann H. Foster Adams.
Friends are invited to call 4-5 pm, Monday, February 23, 2015 at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin Street, Ellsworth with a Masonic Service and funeral service to follow. Spring interment will be in New Hampshire.
