Frank E. “Bampa” aka “OldCoot” Herrick Jr., 68, died unexpectedly on June 8, 2014 at his home. He was born on Oct 26, 1945 in Ellsworth, a son of Frank E. and Edna (Atherton) Herrick, Sr.
Frank grew up in Addison and Ellsworth. He graduated from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in the early 70’s. He started out for the Ellsworth Police Department and ended his 33 year career in Southwest Harbor. After retirement, Frank wanted a farm. After trying all the farm animals, he chose pigs as his new career thanks to his mentor, Robert Jordan. He enjoyed attending the Blue Hill Fair, Fryberg Fair and “Haircut” Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his mother, Edna (Merritt) Atherton; his wife, Linda (Putnam) Herrick; sons, Mark Herrick and partner Ella Herrick of Ellsworth and Southwest Harbor. Scott Herrick and wife Charo of W. Gardner; daughters, Shiree Herrick of Ellsworth, Nichole Moore and friend John Crowley of Sullivan; son-in-law, Wally Moore; grandchildren, Aaron Herrick of Southwest Harbor, Hannah Burnett of Gouldsboro, Alexzandria Herrick of Southwest Harbor, Ian Herrick, Zachary Herrick, and Carli Bryant of Gouldsboro, Jenna French of Sullivan, Franke Bryant of Gouldsboro, and Kaydence Moore of Sullivan; great-grandchild, Andre Sund; brother, John Herrick and wife Alice; sisters, Marjorie Sprague, Sara Tracy and friend Charlie, Mary Hooper and husband Dale, Marcia Hutchinson and husband Roger; special friends, Wayne and Linda Moore. He was predeceased by his grandson, Russell Burnett; aunt, Catherine Herrick Griffin; brother-in-law, Richard Sprague; and dear friend, Robert Jordan and many other special family and friends.
Calling hours will be held 5:30-7:00 pm, Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St. Ellsworth where a funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, June 18th. Interment will be in Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth
