Obituary for Francis Nevin Greene

Francis Nevin Greene, 85, died May 27, 2015 at Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor of complications from Parkinson’s Disease. He was born October 15, 1929 in Washington D.C., the son of Michael Francis Greene and Katherine Eleanor Winand.
Francis Greene, former Vice President of Farmers National Bank of Maryland, was active in community affairs during the thirty years he resided in Annapolis, Maryland. Born in Washington D.C., Mr. Greene was raised by his grandfather, owner of the Pikesville Rye Distillery, and his aunts in Pikesville Maryland. Graduating from Franklin High School in 1948, he went on to receive an A.B. from Loyola College in Baltimore. After college, Mr. Greene worked for Commercial Credit Corporation in Baltimore before taking his position with the bank. After retiring from Farmers National Bank, he worked in an advisory capacity for Atlantic National Bank of Ocean City, Maryland, where he was a director and member of its executive committee. In Annapolis, Mr. Greene was President of the Jaycees, Chairman of the Baltimore chapter of the Boy Scouts of America, director of the Annapolis YMCA, President and founding director of the Annapolis Chapter of the Young Republican Club, and director of the Annapolis Salvation Army. Mr. Greene was a member of the Annapolis Yacht Club for 27 years. Mr. Greene was the owner of the Chesapeake Bay Skipjack “Reliance”, oystering in the waters around Tilghman Island. Beginning at the age of 10, he was trout fishing in the upper Jones Falls; his love of fly fishing continued into his late 70’s. He enjoyed oil painting, woodcarving, training bird dogs, and hunting on his farm in Kent County, Maryland. For many years Mr. Greene spent his summers in Northeast Harbor, Maine.
He is survived by his wife of over 25 years, Leanna Haynie Greene. He is also survived by his four children, Katherine Greene Davis, Elizabeth Batten Greene, Anne Greene Wagner, and Michael Winand Greene; two brothers, Thomas W. Greene and John W. Greene; six grandchildren, two step daughters, Allison Wibby and Erika Mitchell; two step granddaughters; and a step grandson. He is also survived by his first wife of 19 years, Nelly Batten Chapman. He was predeceased by his older brother, Michael Thomas Greene.
At his request no services will be held. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Northeast Harbor. Additional ashes will be scattered in Kent County, Maryland. Those who desire may make contributions in his memory to the charity of their choice.
