Obituary for Evelyn Anstine

Evelyn “Emmy” Anstine, 88, a devoted mother and grandmother, died June 27, 2009 in Bar Harbor after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born Evelyn Virginia Reiker, October 2, 1920 in York, PA. Her father (George McClellan Reiker) drove trolley and buses for the city of York. Her loving mother (Mabel Luella Drais) worked at home raising their ten children.
Evelyn had an interest in books at an early age. She loved to read, memorize poetry, and had a talent for spelling and creating rhymes. She attended York Catholic schools and was a graduate of Thompson Business School. In the 1940’s, she worked at the McKay Chain Company where she met and later married Gerald Anstine. They had four children.
She is survived by her children, Brenda Brenneman of DE, Gerald Anstine of AZ, Virginia Ruth of ME and Julie Lehman of PA; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four siblings, Phylis Knaub, Raymond Reiker, Joleen Thoman and Mabel Gurerri. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Gilbert Anstine; five siblings, Francis Moore, George Reiker, William Reiker, Stanley Reiker and Janice Busia.
Funeral services will be held in York, PA Evelyn’s family extends their appreciation to the Sonogee Rehab and Living Center of Bar Harbor for compassionately caring for their mother. Contributions in Evelyn’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 170 Rt 1, Suite 250, Falmouth, ME 04105
