Penobscot/Hulls Cove
Dorothy “Hazel” LaBonte, 87, died October 15, 2012 at a Penobscot healthcare facility. She was born in Springfield, MA, October 13, 1925 the daughter of Albert Edward and Merle (Ritchings) Ellett.
Hazel grew up in Waltham, MA and graduated from Waltham High School and Waltham School of Nursing. She worked for many years at the Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick, MA and became Director of Nursing. She was also Director of Nursing at Fairlawn Hospital in Worcester, MA She and her husband, Edward W. LaBonte, Sr., retired to Maine in 1989 and eventually they made their home in Hulls Cove. She was an accomplished artist and was a member of various artist groups as well as gardening clubs. She owned and operated Hazel’s Paintings in Hulls Cove. She also was a past member of the MDI Auxiliary.
She is survived by a daughter, Michele Shea and husband Jerry of Brookfield, MA; son, Edward W. LaBonte Jr of Athol, MA; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband in 2000.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
