Obituary for Donald Joseph White Dr.

Dr. Donald Joseph White, 80, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 19, 2014 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Orono, June 14, 1934, beloved son of Alice Elizabeth Myers of Orono.
Don grew up in Orono and attended Orono High School where he excelled in varsity football, playing tailback. He captained the track team, which won the Penobscot Valley Conference in 1952 and he set records in the 100-yard dash. After graduating in 1952, he enlisted in the US Navy and served as a hospital corpsman. While stationed in Portsmouth, NH, he met Sylvia Frati and they were married in 1955. He attended the University of Maine while working weekends in the lab at the Eastern Maine General Hospital. He then attended the University of Pittsburgh Dental School, graduating in 1965 with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery. He returned to the U.S. Navy as a dental officer and served 20 years before retiring. He enjoyed living in St. Augustine, FL. for a number of years before returning to Maine. He was a very caring and compassionate dentist. He enjoyed gardening, food, photography, music, animals, and most of all, loved his family.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sylvia Frati White; beloved daughters, Renee M. White of Gouldsboro, and Lynne M. White and husband Trevor Hall, Jr. of Orlando, FL; cherished granddaughter, Elise M. E. Hall of Orlando; and cousin, Nelson Ranco of Orono.
Services will be announced in the spring with interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Ellsworth.
