Condolence: I was a classmate of Dave's in high school, and played football as well with him. In my life, I have never known a competitor like Dave, yet he was always there for everyone in times of need. A great athlete and police officer. My sincerest sympathies to his family. We have all lost a great human being.

Condolence: From my first meeting with David at the MCJA, he stood out as a mentor to all who knew him. He desired to instill in cadets desire to survive in difficult situations. Only The Lord knows the lives saved from injury due to his ability to instill officer safety. We all owe him credit for his example and his heart to serve.

Condolence: Jeanne, David will be missed greatly as he was such a gentle and caring person. Not many people could brighten a room the way he could. I know that he and Otto are together again and are watching over you every day. My deepest condolences go to you and your family.

Condolence: Dave was the gentlest giant I ever met, tho' the first time I saw him I was certain he was a member of Hell's Angels or the Exiles! I was working at the Blue Hill LaVerdiere's when Dave rolled up on his motorcycle-in full leather and black bandana, of course. My co-worker (the late Mina Robbins) just gave me a knowing grin when I said something to the effect of, "Oh, boy, he looks like trouble." Dave made his purchase and left. Only after he was gone did Mina let me in on the fact that he was a State Trooper! After that initial meeting, I got to speak with Dave as (retail) time allowed and learned of our shared love for cats and that he had made a safe enclosure for his kitties so they could enjoy the great outdoors. He was living proof that you cannot judge a book by its cover! We have lost a great human being.

Condolence: While reading last night I came across a quote from an ancient Greek text on the passing of a great Greek hero. It immediately brought Dave to mind when I read these words and so I respectfully share them with you today:

"After his mighty labors he has rest.
His choicest prize eternal peace.
Within the homes of blessedness."

Condolence From: Brian Smith - MSP CID (Retired)
Condolence: My prayers are with Jeanne (one of the great SP Dispatchers) and the rest of Dave's family. Everytime I used the skills that Dave taught me to avoid injury or worse, I thanked him when I saw him again. I worked with him on the last murder case before his retirement and he was as dedicated and cherrful as always. Dave will be sadly missed by all who knew him and is truly a MSP Legend.

Condolence: Our condolences to Dave's family. My you be enfolded in God's healing arms at this time of loss.
I noted that Dave's obit stated: that for those that knew him he was synonymous with all that was good about law enforcement in the State of Maine. As one who knew him in an adversarial role I wholly agree. Over the years it was a pleasure to be in contact with him. He was always professional and forthright. He was friendly and honest. I share your grief.

Condolence From: Samuel Nesbitt
Condolence: Others have written with eloquence of Dave's sterling qualities as trooper but, more importantly as a decent, fair and honorable man. Professionally, Dave was the type of police officer we were always glad to look up and see standing in front of our desks He only brought in good complaints supported by compelling evidence. He had always done his homework. From a prosecutor's point of view, he was the exemplary law enforcement officer.
