Obituary for Daniel M. Kimball

Belmont, MA/Northeast Harbor
Daniel M. Kimball, 72, died August 9, 2013 at a Bangor Hospital. He was born, October 15, 1940 in Bar Harbor, the son of Loren E. and Marian (MacDonald) Kimball.
He graduated from Mt. Desert High School in Northeast Harbor and the University of Connecticut, with a BA in English. After college he served in the U.S. Army. Danny then lived in Simsbury, CT and worked for Travelers Insurance. Upon the death of his aunt, Margaret Kimball, he and his sister, Nancy Kimball Ho assumed the ownership and management of The Kimball Shop in Northeast Harbor until the mid 80’s, when he took over as general manager for the Asticou Inn. After his retirement from Asticou, he became involved in several real estate projects. He completely retired in 2007. Danny was very involved in the community. He served on the Mt. Desert Island School Committee as member and chairman, the Town of Mt. Desert Zoning Board as a member, the Northeast Harbor Library as a member and chairman, and the Northeast Harbor Sailing School.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Lydia Clothier (Fitler) Kimball; four sons, William C. and Andrew B. Kimball of Belmont, MA; sons with his former wife, Ellen Kappes, Alexander L. Kimball of North Yarmouth, ME and Benjamin D. Kimball of Williamsburg, MA; sister, Nancy K. Ho of Northeast Harbor; and two nephews.
Private graveside services will be held at the Kimball Family Cemetery, Northeast Harbor.
