Obituary for Clifton E. Watson

MOUNT DESERT — Clifton E. Watson, 89, died January 31, 2012 at Westgate Manor in Bangor, ME. He was born May 3, 1922 on Swans Island, the son of Andrew J. and Della (Withee) Watson.
While serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II, Clifton completed NTSch (diesel) training in Columbia, Mo. During WWII he earned the Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. Clifton was a member of South Portland VFW Post 832. He was a member of the Tremont Congregational Church in Tremont, ME. He was an active volunteer with Downeast Horizons and Island Connections on Mount Desert Island. He also enjoyed woodworking.
Clifton is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Ruth (White) Watson; his daughters Meredith Ford and her husband Tony of Oceanside, CA, Andrea of Ellsworth, ME; sons Clifton E. Watson, Jr. and his wife Janice of Franklin, MA, Chandler and his wife Jean of Milford, MA and Peter and his wife Jacque of Lyons, CO. He leaves eleven (11) grandchildren and six (6) great grandchildren with two great grandchildren due this spring; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister Annie Reed and his brother Andrew Watson.
A service of remembrance, led by Rev. Dr. Wayne Buchanan, was held Friday, February 3, 2012 at the Tremont Congregational Church in Tremont, ME. Spring interment will be at Riverside Memorial Cemetery, Cape Elizabeth, ME. Funeral services were provided by Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, Mount Desert, ME.
