Obituary for Charles Knowlton Jordan

Charles “Charlie” Knowlton Jordan passed away peacefully, November 8, 2014, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough. His family and friends will remember him as always grinning and “putting” around in his garage and garden. Charlie was born September 29, 1923 in Ellsworth, to Herman and Anna (Doyle) Jordan.
He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1940. He joined the Navy and served in World War II as a Sea Bee serving in the Pacific. After the war he went to work for New England Telephone Co. as a Lineman, working his way up to Foreman in both Ellsworth, and Houlton. Charlie came from a family of telephone workers. He retired in 1984. Charlie was a life member of Lygonia Mason Lodge #40, A.F. and A.M. in Ellsworth, a life member of Order of Eastern Star Irene Chapter #97, a member of Anah Shrine Temple, a charter member of the Go Karts in the Shrines a former member of the Houlton Lions Club, and a Life member of the V.F.W. in Ellsworth, Maine. After moving to Portland, because of the disease he and his wife became very active with the Portland Adult Parks and Recreation program, here they were able to enjoy many trips and excursions around Portland, and Casco Bay. He also belonged to the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Charlie is survived by his wife Marcia of 62 years, his daughter Jennifer Jordan-Trombley and her husband Michael all of Portland; his step-granddaughter, Tricia Trombley, her fiancé Adrian Aguilar; great-step-granddaughter Liana of Falmouth; step-grandson, Michael of Arizona. Charlie also leaves behind his sister Ernestine (Jordan) Clements and her husband Robert of Hancock; his brothers, Rodney and Calvin both of Ellsworth; a special nephew Kelly of Ellsworth; and several nieces, nephews and cousins as well as old and new friends.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 12 noon-1pm, Friday Nov. 14, 2014 at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth where services will follow at 1 pm with Pastor Robert Maddocks officiating. Interment will be at the Forest Hill Cemetery, Lamoine.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough for all the love and support they have given Charlie and his family, especially the A unit. The staff filled his days with love and joy and provided services above and beyond. Our gratitude will be forever remembered.
