Obituary for Catherine Diane Hodgkins

Salisbury Cove
Catherine Diane Hodgkins, 60, died April 6, 2012 in Salisbury Cove. She was born July 10, 1951 in Boston, the daughter of Harry and Catherine (Watters) Smith.
Catherine was devoted to her entire family. She was selfless and gave to others whatever they needed, whenever they needed it. While raising her own family she played a major role assisting in the care of her mother-in-law, Elizabeth, and a number of years later her father-in-law, John (Bud). She always made herself available to her cousins, nieces and nephews in difficult times as a surrogate mother, a confessor, or a friend. She was always the first person to step up and lend a hand, shoulder or an ear in times of sadness or loss.
After the loss of her mother-in-law, Catherine naturally merged into the role of matriarch of the Hodgkin’s family and showered the family with love and kindness and provided firm and steady guidance in equal measure. She was a tireless giver, often times cooking meals or providing transportation for ill family members, neighbors and friends. For the past 20 or more years Catherine became the foundation of the Hodgkins Family and she will be greatly missed and forever cherished.
She attended Middleboro High School in Middleboro, MA. Catherine was a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church of Bar Harbor.
She is survived by her mother, Catherine Smith, her beloved husband of 38 years, Lawrence A. Hodgkins, two sons, Dallas Hodgkins and Byron Hodgkins, all of Bar Harbor. Two daughters; Stephanie Hodgkins of Bar Harbor and Kala Ward and husband, Michael of Virginia Beach, VA. One brother, Harry Smith and wife, Karen of Rochester, MA. Grandchild, Eden F. Hodgkins and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Catherine was predeceased by her father, Harry Smith and two brothers, Thomas and Patrick Smith.
Memorial services will be held 11:00AM, Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mt. Desert with Father John O’Hara officiating.
Contributions in Catherine’s memory may be made to Island Connections, 15 Eagle Lake Road, Bar Harbor, ME 04609.
