Blue Hill and Penobscot
Betty McKay, 87, well loved mom, Grammie, great-Grammie, sister and friend, died Saturday, March 21, 2015 in Blue Hill. She was born May 10, 1927 in Blue Hill, the daughter of Ernest and Bessie (Atherton) Robertson.
Betty attended and graduated from George Stevens Academy, class of 1945. The joy of Betty and Ralph’s marriage was raising their five children. They lived 4 years in Bangor and then decided that Blue Hill was calling them back as a better place to raise their family. Each year at Blue Hill Fair time, they assisted Betty’s mother Bessie, with parking cars across the street and greeting old and new friends. They taught their children the value of respecting and helping family and friends. Betty loved children. She taught Sunday school at the Blue Hill Baptist Church for 20 years and was assistant teacher at the Blue Hill Nursery School. Betty also worked at Partridge Drug in Blue Hill, as a telephone operator, for Dr. Bradley Brownlow, was an Avon representative, and did housekeeping for several families. She touched the life of every child she nurtured as well as the many other people that she knew and / or worked with.
Betty is survived by her sister, Nellie and husband Lonnie Gray of Blue Hill; five children, Edward (Ed) and partner Alice of St. Albans, Richard (Dick) and wife Judy of Penobscot, Donna of Ellsworth, Robert (Bob) and wife Jan of Penobscot and Patricia (Trisha) and husband Dennis Robertson of Penobscot; grandchildren, Karen and husband Kevin Belton of Exeter, NH, Peter and wife Teri of Fremont, NH, Richard (Chip) and wife Betty of Penobscot, Barbara and husband Matthew Cousins of Blue Hill, Angela and husband Dale Reynolds of Richmond, VA, Adam and partner Traci of Ellsworth, Allyson of Penobscot, Dawn of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Debra of Gorham, ME; great-grandchildren, Whitney, Katelin, Alison, Amber, Johanna, Jakob, Veronnika, Keeli, Mackay, Brittney, Tyler; and great-great-grandchildren, Owen and Tiberius. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Ralph after 45 years of marriage; her parents; two brothers, Lawrence (Bud) Robertson and Leroy (Skip) Robertson; special daughter-in-law, Linelle Whitney McKay; and dear cousin, Mina Robbins.
Friends are invited to call, 5:00-7:00PM, Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, March 27 at the Penobscot United Methodist Church with Pastor Deanna West officiating. Spring interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery, North Blue Hill.
