Obituary for Bernice Marie Moore
Bernice Marie (Barrett) Moore, 87, of Bar Harbor passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on June 30, 2015. Born on July 15, 1927 in Plainfield, New Jersey, Bernice was the second of three daughters to the late Marie P. (Dacey) and Walter N. Barrett.
Bernice was a devoted wife, loving mother and wonderful homemaker, who married the love of her life John C. Moore (Jack) on October 30, 1946 in Butte Montana. They made their home in North Plainfield, NJ, where they raised their 7 children. Bernice dearly loved her family, who remained the center of her life all her days. Bernice loved to cook and over the years hosted many festive and memorable family gatherings. She also liked to read, garden, swim, ride horses, and collect Longaberger baskets. She enjoyed relaxing vacations at Budd Lake NJ, the Jersey shore and Boca Raton, FL.
Moving to Milford, NJ in 1993, Bernice and Jack enjoyed a long retirement together on their small Christmas tree and horse farm. Bernice was an animal lover and adored her many pets throughout her lifetime, including her precious cats, faithful dogs, her delightful parrots and beautiful horses. In 2009 they moved to Bar Harbor Maine, where they lived with Gregory and Karen Moore and their family, who lovingly cared for them until the end of their lives.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John C. Moore and her grandson, Jason Thomas Reid. She is survived by her sisters, Joan Palmer and Jean Conner; her children, Carol Lee Moore, Jo Ann Moore (Mark Allen), Stephen John Moore (Robin De Vito), James Randall Moore (Kay Moore), Gregory Barrett Moore (Karen Moore), Barbara Jean Melton (James Melton), Jacqueline Marie Brady (Joseph Brady); her 8 grandchildren, Ivy Moore Brownell, Courtney, Michael, Ryan, and Katelyn Moore and Justin, Lily and Julie Brady; and 7 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 13 at 11:00 AM at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church Mount Desert St., Bar Harbor. Internment will be at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Kebo St., Bar Harbor. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to the Mount Desert Island Hospital at 10 Wayman Lane, Bar Harbor, Maine 04609.
