Obituary for Arthur L. Abbott Jr.

Seal Harbor
Arthur L. Abbott Jr., 69, passed away peacefully July 2, 2013 at MDI Hospital with his loving daughter by his side. He was born in Bar Harbor on April 20, 1944, the son of Arthur and Grace (Paine) Abbott, Sr.

Arthur grew up in Bar Harbor and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1962 and served in Germany where he was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal and the M14 Expert Medal.
He married the love of his life Hortense (Tee) Grindle in 1970 and together they raised their daughter, Michele, in Seal Harbor. Arthur worked as a caretaker for many years for Jane Zirnkilton of Seal Harbor and Eleanor Greenan also of Seal Harbor. He also helped his wife with their business, First Express. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed golfing, hunting and boating. Arthur was a 30 year member of Northeast Harbor Masonic Lodge where he held many offices including Master of the Lodge and was a representative of the Grand Lodge of Maine as District Deputy Grand Master for the 21st District. He was a 32 Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Bangor and the Consistory of Portland. He was also a member of the Anah Temple Shrine of Bangor where he marched in the Flag Unit. Arthur was a mentor for everyone and an example for all. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Michele Croan and her husband Charlie of Seal Harbor; two grandchildren, Charles Croan III and his wife Becki of Lamoine; Mathew Croan and his wife Libby of Fairbanks, Alaska; four great grandchildren Kody, Kailyn, Hailey, and Ryan; two brothers, Dick Abbott of Hancock and Tom Abbott and his wife Gale of Bar Harbor and their families; one sister, Gerry Claremont of N.H.; brother- in- law Andy Hopkins of East Millinocket; two sister-in-laws, Susan Jane Grindle and wife Janice Collucci of Seal Harbor and Onalee Fritz of Ga. and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Hortense (Tee), his father Arthur, his mother Grace and sister Elizabeth.
A Masonic and Military graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Hillside Cemetery in Hulls Cove with a reception to follow.
