Obituary for Anita Louise DeMeyer (Van Fossen)

Anita Louise DeMeyer (Van Fossen)
Eastbrook, Maine – Anita arrived in Heaven on angels wings on March 17th, she was unexpectedly called home by the Lord.

She was born in Columbus, Ohio, where she grew up until her early 20’s when she moved to Maine and made it her home. She was married to Ralph Gonzales of Orland, until around 1980, where they raised two daughters, Melody and Tina. She was later married from 1982 ~1990 to William ‘Billy’ Potter of Bucksport where she lived and continued raising her daughters. She worked as a CNA at Collier’s Nursing Home in Ellsworth for almost 30 years.

While still working at Colliers in 1992, she met the love of her life, best friend, and beloved husband, Forrest DeMeyer of Eastbrook. They married in July of 1995 and have spent the last 22 years building their life together. Many hours have been spent at their home in Eastbrook with loved ones and friends playing farkle, eating dinner, and laughing. She spent her spare time crocheting doilies and table clothes. When her sister Dorothy came to visit, you could always find them getting ready to ‘go junking’ as Anita loved antiques, baby dolls, and jewelry. If needed, she would give you the shirt off her back. She was willing to give you her opinion when asked – but you had best be prepared for what was to come. Anita never knew a stranger and would always speak to anyone with kind words. She would quickly let a stranger know that she liked their shoes or purse or they looked nice today. Heck, she was known to flirt with a handsome man – or two – to let him know that his wife should be so lucky to be on his arm. When she would tell you she loved you and you knew this to be true because she always made you feel it.

Anita will forever be remembered for her infectious smile, contagious laugh, shining eyes, excessive generosity, stubbornness, unintentional goofiness, and the unconditional love that she always imparted. Anyone who knew her will remember her, and those that didn’t, it’s too bad because you missed out on knowing this beautiful woman with all her faults, her quirks, and her huge heart.

Anita was predeceased by her parents, Willard Henry & Margaret Louise VanFossen of Columbus, Ohio, her brother Billy VanFossen of New York, her nieces, Margaret Speakman of Columbus, Ohio, and Katherine (Seidenkranz) Prunty of Arlington, Virginia, and, son, Baby Boy Gonzales of Orland, Maine.

She is survived by her loving husband, Forrest DeMeyer, of Eastbrook; her daughters, Melody (Gonzales) Neal of Panama City, Florida, Tina (Gonzales) Glover & husband, Ted, of Round Rock, Texas, Nancy Madore & husband, Mike, of Ellsworth, Maine, her sisters Dorothy Seidenkranz & husband, Jerry, of Arlington, Virginia, Barbara Speakman & husband, Bob, of Columbus, Ohio, Linda Levings, of Mount Vernon, Ohio; her brother Ronald VanFossen of Columbus; her grandchildren, Robert ‘Bobby’ Fiorentino & wife, Micah, of New Albany, Indiana, Adam Tinney of Panama City, Florida, Jacob Antoine & partner, Chloe Muna, of Round Rock, Texas, Jennifer, Benjamin and Jeremy Madore; her great granddaughter, Snow Everly Antoine of Round Rock, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

We all must remember that she loved all of us with ‘all her heart and soul’.

Forrest…remember that she loved you most with ‘a bushel and peck, a bushel and a peck, a hug around the neck … and a squeeze’.

When winter decides to turn into spring, there will be a graveside burial for the family.

A Celebration of Life will be organized for the month of August – please send your availability to attend along with any memories / stories / photos to anitademeyer2018@gmail.com so that they can be organized and included at her memorial.
