Carole “Abbey” Danke , 76, passed away on December 29, 2017. Born February 28, 1941 in Pittsburgh, Pa. to the late Fritz and Mildred (Hoffman) Grossman. Carole (Maiden name Grossman) “Abbey” Danke grew up and lived in Pittsburgh, Pa. Carole “Abbey” Danke then moved from Pittsburgh, Pa. to Slippery Rock Pa. She was also known by Channel 2 KDKA and Channel 11 WPXI, Pittsburgh Pa. in the early 80’s as: “The Phantom Tree Trimmer” on Route 79 by Zelienople, Pa. Then in 1988 she moved to Settlers Woods, Ct. Woodland Hills, Ca. Westlake Village, Ca. then finally to Franklin Me. “Abbey” as she was known by and influenced so many people, worked for Koppers Company, Fisher Big Wheel Department Stores, AMES Department Stores, Capital Records, Disney, and (her own business venture) C.F.I. or Corporate Freight Management in California. She held a Doctored degree in Business / Logistics from Pepperdine University, Ca. She retired in 2006 and traveled across the country from California to Maine with her beloved husband Rene Danke. Carole “Abbey” Danke was an active member of the Garden Club and the Franklin Veterans Club. Carole Abbey Danke loved the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department and was active for a short time frame. She wanted to recapture her youth, riding on the fire truck to the action as she did with her father whom was the Chief of the Baldwin Boro Volunteer Fire department, located in Pittsburgh, Pa. She loved to cut grass and landscape with boulders and rocks. Carole “Abbey” Danke also enjoyed writing screen plays and giving lectures when asked at Universities. On her down time “Abbey” enjoyed watching football, C.S.I., Bull, and Blue Bloods. Mom was a passionate Pittsburgh Steeler fan. Carole “Abbey” Danke attended 4 of the Pittsburgh Steeler Super Bowls in the 70’s. When Abbey moved to Maine she appreciated the rivalry then became an arm chair Patriots fan unless they played the Pittsburgh Steelers. She is predeceased by her husband Rene Danke in 2011. Carole “Abbey” Danke is survived by her son John F. Abbey of Slippery Rock, Pa. her sister Sandy (Grossman) Monigold. Carole “Abbey” Danke was cremated upon her wishes and will finally be beside her loving husband Rene in Franklin, Maine. Her humor and sarcasm lives on through the folks she touched and continues to bring laughter of the many stories about her essence. Abbey would say: “It is what it is”. Friends and Family will be invited to a future service and celebration of “Abbeys” life in the late spring or early summer of 2018. This will be announced in the Ellsworth American.
