I don't recall much about the event, just that I was chosen to be in a parade behind some girl/woman who was Miss Something or other. I felt so special all dressed up and feeling important. Later that day Mr. Guthrie, (I never called him Tom), dubbed me the 'princess'. Often when my mom would visit their household, if we weren't expected to wait in the car!, Mr. Guthrie would address me as princess.
I never felt very special as a child growing up and this acknowledgement meant a lot to me. Mr Guthrie was always so kind and would acknowledge my presence when I was around.
He will be missed.
